Corporal Punishment

Corporal Punishment

I believe Corporal punishment should be legal due to SERIOUS bad behaviour. The Dictionary states that corporal punishment is: physical punishment, as spanking, inflicted on a child by an adult in authority.

In this argument I hope to convince you Corporal Punishment should be used only in serious situations.

Two boys Hunter and Wyat were waiting for the bus after school. Wyat went to get a drink and some lollies from the near by dairy, as Hunter waited in the bus stop. When Wyat came back he went up to Hunter went up to Hunter and said “WHERE ARE MY LOLLIES?!” Hunter replied “I did not get any for you”Intentionally Hunter knocks the drink out of Wyats hand and punches him in the stomach, leaving Wyat on the ground. A students mum comes to help him as Hunter runs away.

After all of the chaos, Hunter was punished but not with a beating. He had 2 days off school, writing an apology letter for Wyat perfecting it as it had to be read verbally.

I believe this boy should not have have hurt that boy, he should have been punished with the strap, because how is writing and reading out a letter going to do anything? I personally do not think Hunter has learnt his lesson.

What goes around comes around, an eye for an eye a tooth for a tooth. By bringing back corporal punishment could change everything, think of the changes, the differences in childrens behaviour.

Would you really want your child doing something wrong and not learning a lesson out of it? Things like this situation could lead to violence at home if not dealt with properly, and I am positive you would want to feel safe in your own home, wouldn’t you?

Overall, Wyat and Hunter still go to the same school, Hunter had one punishment which was hardly one. I hope you now see my points I have made and agree with me.

Pool and Dance

Julie taught us a dance and took us to H2O xtreme pool. It was really fun.

My favorite pages.

H2O

Dare Branches

The DARE programme.

The dare program was really fun. Constable Julie is so lovely and nice. I leant so much and im sure the whole of the year 7 and 8's did as well. I knew hardly anything about drugs and making the right choice, but now I do. Learning about drugs was actually REALLY fun, not just because she handed out lollies! Julie played games with us, and we watched videos including this really funny one of this girl high on drugs after having her wisdom teeth pulled out. This was so much fun and I would love to do it again in the future! - Olivia.

Dear Abby

Dear Abby,

I have a secret that I have kept for a few days now and it involves two families who are rivals and dread each other. You see, there are two children from these two families and they have instantly fallen in love with each other, as you would imagine, it would be a secret otherwise there would be a big fight. They have asked me (as I am a Friar at the local church) to marry them. It would be a secret from their families which I both know very well. I am stressing out, I wonder what God is thinking of me right now, is this a sin? I have agreed to marry them and I am afraid I will get caught and killed. What am I going to do!? Please help me,

Friar.

Dear Friar,

I see you are in a pickle, and I can see why you would be stressing out. Before you marry them, talk to the children and tell them your issue with them getting married. Maybe convince them they are too young. I am not religious, but I would imagine that God would not consider this as a sin. Hopefully this is good advice! If not, feel free to write back!

Abby.

Romeo Character Description

                                  Romeo

In Fair Verona, lies a dead soul of my good friend Romeo Montague. Just a heartbroken boy miss led by love then takes his own life. Romeo was a charmer and a dreamer and would do anything for his beloved wife, Juliet Capulet.

Romeo was a peace keeper, a lover, not a fighter. In his spare time, he wrote love poems about his lovesick feelings. The 14 year old was very well known around the village of Verona. I remember when Romeo first told me about Juliet and how she was beautiful. He was a very loyal friend and would kill for their lives and for what he believes in.

Romeo is a very romantic lad and is very passionate about love and the people he cares about. He is a risk taker, kind, caring and loyal. He would do anything for Juliet and believes in love at first sight. Romeo was obsessed with finding love, so one night he decided to go out to a party, but it was a Capulet party where he met the love of his life, Juliet.

Juliet claimed his hair shone like the stars and his voice was as sweet as anything she had ever heard. She also said he made her heart beat so fast it nearly came out of her chest. I guess you could say he was the perfect man.

Romeo is the only child of Lady and Lord Montague. Benvolio is Romeo’s cousin and a very good friend. Romeo is married to Juliet Capulet from the rival family. They had a forbidden love and no one could know except for the nurse. Before Romeo fell in love with Juliet, he loved another girl called Roselyn but she did not return his love.

Now Romeo lies dead with Juliet in Fair Verona and will stay there. The two families have come together and worked through their differences. If the two didn’t come together and die together, the rivalry between the Montague’s and the Capulets would still be going on.

N.Y.L.D 2012

On the 28th of May 2012 Muritai Schools Year 7 and 8 went to Nation Young Leaders Day on the bus. We left at 8.30am and got there at 9.30am we arrived and saw other schools waiting to come in to the hall to get to there seats. As we came in, two famous people that are presenters were hosting it and they were really funny.
First Nick Tuatasi came out and told us about bad things that have happened in his life includnig death and being stranded, and even some funny moments but what he was really trying to tell us was about SPARK.
The second person was Jamie Fitzgearld who came and told us about how he set a world record for travelling to the north polewith his friend. What he said was, never let performance get in the way of safety, and how much effort have you put in.
The next person was Cassandra Treadwell who told us about her charity in Kenya who helps kids that need help from war that has happened and she has built a school, orphanage and nursery. Her main ponit was, believe in yourself and others will to.
The fourth person was Cam Calkoen who was my favourite out of all the five people, he is a famous runner for New Zealand but has cerebral palsy which is a type of disorder which causes brain and nervous system functions such as movement, learning, hearing, seeing, and thinking. His main point is Dream big and achieve more.
Finally we had was Dave Akinson who was really cool. He made a penguin out of a banana. His main points were, to stick up for what's right, choose good friends, and live for others. After that we went back to school and I went home and told my parents all about it and I am definately going there next year!

Buddies!! =)

Buddies
Every Friday, Room 22 go across the road to our buddies in room 5. We do spelling, reading and playing games with them. My buddy is called Seren. She has blonde hair and is English. Sometimes she is a bit hard to control because she is so crazy and cheats on her spelling tests. Her best friend is called Sarah who is Ella's buddy.  I love spending time with our buddies because we get to relax and have a good time with them. It is really great because we get to do fun art with the and them with their work. I love going to buddies and helping them out!

The Carbon Cycle

What is the Carbon Cycle?
Carbon can be found anywhere on earth, including: Plants, Humans and Animals. It can also be found atmosphere around us and in Shells, rocks and fossil fuels and can also dissolve in water.
When plants and animals decompose they release carbon. As they go through this process they become part of the soil. This is called decomposition.
Every time you breathe in, you remove oxygen. Then when you breathe it out, the plants take it in and that is how the survive, they store carbon in them and then when they die, they release it. This is called the respiration cycle.
Carbon travels down rivers and transfers itself into the sea, then the Carbon goes into the sea plants and the fish and sea animals eat it and then they store their carbon. The Carbon sure does go into a lot of places and people including us. The Carbon around us, without even knowing transports around, and that is why this is called the transportation process.
Plants and trees use Carbon Dioxide from the atmosphere. They use that Carbon as they grow, and when they die, they release it. All of this is done through something called photosynthesis. When something dies it transforms in soil and compacts. Compaction is the name of part of the cycle.
Human impact is making more Carbon with cars, deforestation and fossil fuels which is raising global warming risks. Even though Carbon is good gas it can also be bad, and could destroy the world but jus remember it is all controlled by humans.

Louis Verna Sutherland By Olivia Seymour

Louis Verna Sutherland
Louis Verna Sutherland was born on the 19th of Janruary 2000 at 2:00 am at Hutt Hospital. His parents are Ellen and Paul Sutherland. Louis attended East Harbour Kindergarten until he was 4 years old, and then went on to Muritai School as a new entrant, shadowing his older brother Austin Sutherland who was a year 3 at the time. Louis lives in Eastbourne Lower Hutt and is still curently living there, he has lived in 2 houses in Eastbourne. Eastbourne is a small place across from situated on the Wellington Harbour.
When Louis was in Year 1 his teacher was Mrs. Ryan and Mrs. Buckley who he enjoyed having when he was little. Louis remembers when he was dropped of at school he used to cry because his Mum was leaving him.
At the age of 7 or 8 Louis developed a strong interset in music, but Louis didn’t seem to like the modern music at the time. He started to become very fond of 70’s and 80’s music such as: The Beatles, Jimmy Hendrix and Deep Purple. Louis says, “I love all of these bands and find them extrememly inspirational.”
Louis hobbies are music, acting, basketball, paintball and football. Louis loves to cook, his favourite things to bake are cakes. He is currently in a band called “The Bumnotes” and is also in the school band. In their band, they play rock music.
Louis is Scottish, Kiwi, Italian, English but mostly German. His middle name “Verna” is German which was given by his Great Grandfather.
Louis describes his personality as a funny, wacky, talkative, caring, respectful and a nice person. I think most of these are true. Louis mentioned to me that the Beatles changed his whole way of thinking about music.
I asked Louis what his proudest moment was and he replied ‘The day I was in Auckland and performed my own song that I wrote in front of 900 people, I felt really proud of myslef’ He is very brave. In the future Louis would like to be in a well known band, and if that doesn’t work out, he would like to be an actor. Louis has a long life ahead of him and I’m pretty sure he will succeed in his future.
